Neurosurgery is a medical specialty that deals with the central nervous system. Neurosurgeons diagnose, treat and rehabilitate patients with certain neurological diseases and disorders. They treat problems in the spine, nerves and brain. Neurosurgical procedures may include spinal cord trauma, tumors or cancer, disc herniation, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, vascular problems in the brain and some psychiatric disorders. The treatment methods include diagnostic imaging, microsurgery, endoscopic surgery, radiosurgery, cranioplasty, angioplasty, stenting and cancer therapy.
Neurosurgery is one of many specialized treatments available to foreign patients through medical tourism. More than 130 hospitals in dozens of countries have neurosurgery departments that treat medical travelers. Many of these hospitals have multiple international accreditations. These include private and university hospitals in Austria, Germany, India, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Panama, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and Turkey.
