For couples with fertility problems, in vitro fertilization (IVF) can make conception possible. During the procedure, mature eggs are harvested from the ovaries before being fertilized with sperm. Once fertilized, the eggs are implanted in the uterus. The most effective form of reproductive assistance, IVF greatly increases the chances of conception and can give children to people who otherwise would not be able to conceive.
Unfortunately, IVF is often very expensive in the United States. The treatment may take many cycles before conception is achieved, and the cost can be prohibitive for many patients. Patients can save thousands of dollars by choosing to have IVF in other countries. More advanced treatments may be available in locations outside of the patient's home country may also significantly increase the likelihood of conception.
