There are a variety of reasons people have trouble hearing. But one very specific reason is a defect in the innermost bone of the three bones of the middle ear. It is damaged by a condition called otosclerosis; however, the condition is something that can be remedied. A surgeon will put the patient under general anesthesia and remove the defective bone and place a prosthesis, a small plastic tube, in its place to effect better movement of sound that will improve the patient’s hearing. This operation is called a stapedectomy.
Currently, many people are opting to have surgery in another country by qualified physicians as it can be more easily accessed and occasionally cheaper. And in addition to this, they get a vacation recovery, which is something everyone likes to hear.
