The daVinci surgical system consists of three or four robotic arms and a control console. It is used to perform complex surgeries with minimal invasion, and is controlled by a doctor, not a computer. One arm is fitted with a camera and the rest hold tools. The robotic arms have wrists with greater range of motion than a human, the precision is greater than for a human and tremor is reduced.
Six countries have approved the daVinci surgical system for cardiac surgery, India and the United States being the most renowned. Many people travel to these countries for procedures, choosing to become medical tourists. Such travelers believe the reduced healing time and ability to recuperate in a pleasant climate are worth the trip. Reduced costs may also be a benefit.
